: hi i my name is tracy i have a birth control pill question.....i was wondering if i take the pill and throw up like 10min later will that pill be like not go into effect? because i am sick rihgt now and you know how that goes and i just took my pill about 10min when i felt like throwing up again...just wanted to know so i won't be having intercourse...and if it doesn't effect anything if i take the pill the tomorrow will it still be effective? thanks for any help

NO!! Your pill will not be effective if you throw it up after 10 minutes. Generally what we do in the ER is repeat the medication if it is thrown up before 15 minutes. I can't recommend you repeat the BCP this way though. Does this happen every time and when do you take it? There's a chance the hormone level may be too high. Also, it is recommended you take the pill every day at the same time. If you are having trouble keeping it down try taking it right before you go to bed. This is also true with pre-natal vitamins.
