Strep Throat while pregnant

I have been sick so I went to my Obstetrician and he said I probably have strep throat. He gave me medicine to take (not strong medicine so it wouldn't harm the baby) and I began feeling better two days later... not completely better but not as bad. They checked the heart beat of the baby and everthing sounded normal. I have heard that strep throat during pregnancy can do great harm to the baby. Does anyone know a little more about this? I am really worried.
